Edgar and Annabel
This project was part of Rose Bruford College’s 2026 British Contemporary Theatre season. Directed by Bruford graduate Neha Hemachandra and performed by Level 4 European Theatre Arts students, the play is set in an audio-surveillance-based dystopian reality.
Aiming to create a sterile environment with a fishbowl-esque feel, I designed the kitchen location to be glossy and white, inspired by showrooms rather than environments where people actually live. Surrounding the kitchen is the meeting place, dark and wooden, creating a clear visual separation between the two spaces. In the centre of the room hangs a single microphone, and the live sound waves of the show were visible on a screen in the meeting place, representing the parasitic nature of the audio surveillance.
Sound designer Arif Silverman used 1950s music in his work for the show. To reflect this in the environment, I designed the costumes to have a light 50’s edge to them. This was done through tight and boxy silhouettes and square necklines where appropriate.
